This week I focused on the reading “The Language of New Media” by Lev Manovich. Personally, I found this reading challenging and hard to understand in some sections. When it was discussed in class, I heard from others that they also couldn’t stay intrigued whilst reading it. From what I took from it, this reading explored Manovich’s perspective on design and how most aspects of it integrate and rely on each other.
The reading went on to talk about the evolution of the printed word, going back as far as printing on clay tablets. I found this very interesting because I know there is an evolution behind this fundamental aspect of our world. Although, I had never thought to research the timeline of how it came to be today. It went on to just be ink on paper, which then got replaced by computers- making words on an electronic screen.
Below is a video I found very helpful in understanding the evolution of print.
